To celebrate the International Year of Light (about), the Stellenbosch Laser Student Chapter has organised a competition to find the best pictures and/or videos depicting light phenomena. Just upload your most beautiful light phenomenon-picture on a social medium on or before the 10th of September, tag us, and stand a chance to win amazing prizes such as high-end (digital) cameras.

The prize-giving ceremony will form part of the IYL Celebration hosted at the Stellenbosch University physics department on the 22nd of September 2015. 

 

How to enter

Entering is very simple:  After having taken a photo/video that you would like to submit, you can upload it to Twitter, Facebook or Instagram.

 

Facebook

-Like our facebook page (Stellenbosch University Laser Students)

-Post a photo/video on your or our wall - tag us in this post, add the hashtag #IYLSU and mention your age. Important: you can only tag us in a post on your wall after you've changed the privacy settings of that post to 'public'. We will not receive the photo if you tag us before making your post public.

-You may add a short description in your post of the type of light phenomenon you captured.

 

Twitter

-Follow us on twitter (@SU_LSC)

-Tweet a photo/video at @SU_LSC with hashtag #IYLSU and mention your age.

-You may add a short description of the type of light phenomenon you captured in your tweet (or a seperate tweet if you need more characters).

 

Instagram

-Follow us on instagram (@su_lsc)

-Instagram a photo/video and tag @su_lsc in your post with hashtag #IYLSU and mention your age.

-You may add a short description in your post of the type of light phenomenon you captured.

 

Prizes

Valuable prizes will be awarded to the top 5 winners.

 

1st prize:   A high-end brand ultrazoom digital camera! (30x optical zoom, ~16 megapixels, with stabilization)

 

2nd prize:  A high-end brand instant printing ('polaroid') photocamera (portable format, 60 mm zoom range)

 

3rd prize:   Unique lomography analog camera (a 4-lensed camera that neatly dissects a second into four parts and then re-

        assembles them to create something entirely new)

 

4th prize:   A pair of binoculars (Zip-focus binocular with 10x magnification and 50mm objective lens)

 

5th prize:   A selfie stick (Ultimate gadget for capturing self-timed photographs and videos, equipped with a wireless Bluetooth

       shutter release for full control over your mobile device's camera)

 

Rules

-The competition officialy finishes on the 10th of September at 23:59 (GMT+2).

-You may enter as many times as you like.

-You may upload the same photo to several social media, but it will be regarded as the same entry.

-Posts without the compulsory tags and mentions as indicated in the "How to enter" section will not qualify for this competition.

-Photos/Videos have to be taken by the person entering the competition.

-Photos/Videos submitted to this competition may not have been submitted to any other competitions.

-The final decision of competition winners lies with panel member appointed by the SLSC and cannot be appealed.

-Exact brand/model type of prizes depend on availability at the time of awarding, but are close to the specifications as mentioned above

-Prize winners will be contacted by 15 September 2015 23:59 (GMT +2).

-The SLSC executive committee can in extreme cases, through majority vote, make minor adjustments or additions to the rules and regulations of this competition

-Entries submitted to this competition grants the SLSC permission to use entries (for promotion on social media, exhibitions at the physics department, etc.)
